Bill Gates Expresses Deep Regret Over Epstein Contact

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has publicly expressed profound regret over his past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, describing it as a “mistake” and stating he regrets “every minute” spent with him. In a candid interview with Australia’s Nine Network, Gates revealed he first met Epstein in 2011, believing Epstein could leverage his network of wealthy individuals to secure donations for global health initiatives. Gates clarified that their interactions were solely focused on philanthropic discussions, despite Epstein’s dubious reputation. However, he admitted that these efforts ultimately proved fruitless, leading him to conclude that spending time with Epstein yielded no positive outcomes. Gates positioned himself as one of many who now lament ever having met Epstein, acknowledging the significant reputational damage the association has caused.

The interview also addressed serious allegations that recently emerged from millions of documents unsealed by the U.S. Justice Department concerning the Epstein case. Among these documents was a particular claim suggesting Gates had contracted a sexually transmitted disease (STD) following alleged affairs and subsequently attempted to conceal this from his then-wife, Melinda French Gates. This specific accusation has added another layer of complexity to the public’s perception of Gates’s involvement with Epstein, hinting at more personal and damaging implications beyond mere professional contact. The moderator, Charles Croucher, directly challenged Gates on these allegations, asking for a definitive response regarding their veracity, placing Gates squarely in the spotlight to address highly sensitive personal matters.

Bill Gates vehemently denied the STD accusation, dismissing it as fabricated. He stated, “No, apparently Jeffrey wrote an email to himself. This email was never sent. The email is fake.” Gates further emphasized his confusion regarding Epstein’s motives for creating such a document, asserting he had no insight into what Epstein “was thinking.” Reiterating his deep remorse, Gates once again apologized for any time spent with the disgraced financier. His clear denial aims to debunk this specific, potentially career-damaging claim, differentiating it from the acknowledged “mistake” of simply interacting with Epstein. This categorical rejection seeks to control the narrative surrounding the more salacious aspects of the unsealed documents.

When pressed on why Epstein might disseminate false information about him while other details in the documents have proven true, Gates clarified the nature of his actual interactions. He maintained, “It is a fact that I was only present at dinners. I was never on the island. I have never met women.” Gates stressed that as more information about Epstein’s activities comes to light, the distinction will become clearer: his “mistake” of engagement “had nothing to do with such behavior” associated with Epstein’s crimes. This distinction is crucial for Gates, aiming to separate his philanthropic efforts from any involvement in Epstein’s criminal enterprises. The interview also referenced Melinda Gates’s prior public statements, where she urged her ex-husband to address outstanding questions, particularly following their 2021 divorce, underscoring the personal toll of the Epstein scandal on their family life.
